Gyratory Compactor
A gyratory compactor is used to compact cylindrical asphalt specimens.
The method can be used for:
- Determining the air void content in an asphalt mixture after a specified number of gyrations.
- Producing a curve showing density or air voids versus number of gyrations.
- Preparing specimens with a defined height to achieve a sample with a specific density for further testing.
The gyratory compactor is used to simulate and reproduce the actual compaction conditions during asphalt paving, thereby determining the compaction characteristics of the asphalt.
