The 1-liter air content meter is used to determine the air content in fresh cement mortar.
This is important to ensure that the mortar has the desired properties, especially with regard to frost resistance and durability.
Frost resistance: Air bubbles in the mortar help protect against damage from freeze–thaw cycles by providing space for water to expand when it freezes.
Improved workability: Correct air content makes the mortar easier to work with, which is especially useful in complex casting projects.
Prevents segregation: Air bubbles help keep the mortar components evenly distributed, preventing heavier materials from settling at the bottom.
Quality control: Measuring air content ensures that the mortar meets project specifications, which is essential for achieving the required strength and durability.
The air meters are supplied as standard with calibration equipment and a water bottle.
Procedure:
Preparation: Fill the measuring container completely with fresh mortar. Compact by rodding 25 times evenly over the surface. Finish by leveling the surface with the rodding rod.
Assembly: Clean the rim of the measuring container and secure the top section using the quick clamps.
Filling with water: Open both valves and fill with water through one valve until water without air bubbles flows out of the other valve.
Pressure adjustment: Close the adjustment valve and pump up the pressure until the gauge needle is approximately 10 mm beyond the red calibration mark. Adjust the pressure by carefully opening the adjustment valve until the needle is exactly on the red mark.
Test: Close both valves. Press down the lever arm for about 20 seconds until the gauge needle stabilizes. Read the air content directly on the gauge in percent.
Completion: Carefully open the valves to release the air pressure. Remove the top section and empty the measuring container.
