Bituminous Masses (Asphalt Mixtures)

Bituminous mixtures, commonly referred to as asphalt, are a blend of mineral Bituminous binders are a collective term for the organic material that forms the adhesive component in asphalt.
They are also used for membranes on, for example, bridges, as well as for bonding between different layers.

Bitumen is important for preventing deformation and water penetration in asphalt, while still maintaining its flexibility.

We supply testing equipment used for bitumen testing, machines for studying the rheological properties of bitumen, as well as the properties of bituminous emulsions.

Products:

Asphalt Splitter

The asphalt splitter is used to break and crumble asphalt samples within minutes, producing high-quality results.

A coarse asphalt sample of approximately 1 kg is poured into the stainless steel bowl, which is equipped with three rotating paddles at the bottom.

The lid is closed, the machine starts, and the three paddles break and crumble the sample.

The bowl is then tilted forward, and the processed sample is poured out onto the supplied pan.

Gyratory Compactor

A gyratory compactor is used to compact cylindrical asphalt specimens.

The method can be used for:

  • Determining the air void content in an asphalt mixture after a specified number of gyrations.
  • Producing a curve showing density or air voids versus number of gyrations.
  • Preparing specimens with a defined height to achieve a sample with a specific density for further testing.

The gyratory compactor is used to simulate and reproduce the actual compaction conditions during asphalt paving, thereby determining the compaction characteristics of the asphalt.

Norwegian Standard:
NS-EN 12697-31 (2007): Bituminous mixtures – Test methods for hot-mix asphalt
– Part 31: Preparation of specimens using gyratory compaction equipment

Marshall Compression Machine

A Marshall press is used to determine the indirect tensile strength and the load distribution coefficient of bituminous mixtures.

Norwegian Standards:
NS-EN 12697-23 (2003): Bituminous mixtures – Test methods for hot-mix asphalt
– Part 23: Determination of the indirect tensile strength of bituminous specimens
